TEACHING PLAN AND
PRACTICE
1. Teaching Plan
1-1. Curriculum
I taught English grammar to 7th-grade students, especially verbals, such as participles, gerunds, and infinitives.
In my classes, I had set the goal of the class to understand the function, form, and differences of verbals, and emphasized them correctly when I taught verbals because I thought it was important to understand verbals correctly and apply them in writing.
1-2. Teaching plan related to my major
Actually, my major is not education, but international studies, so my major doesn't seem to be related to teaching, but broadly speaking, international studies is a field of study that focuses on understanding the social and cultural aspects of particular countries.
So in my lesson plan, I decided to tell my students about the Japanese culture so that they can understand the cultural and social differences between the Philippines and other countries.
1-3. My lesson plan
This is my lesson plan.

2. Teaching Practice
2-1. Procedures of teaching
Overall, my lesson is relatively systematic, just like my cooperating teacher's class that I observed at USHS. First, my lesson begins with a routine activity. In a routine activity, of course, we do greetings and take attendance, but we do preliminary activities before thinking about the content and review the last lesson to make sure they remember the last topic and are ready to move on to the next topic.
After routine activities, I present motivations before moving on to the next topic, such as a part of anime and manga that is familiar to the students and motivates them. After presenting these motivations, I introduce the content of the day's lesson. When the content is finished, we do some activities related to the topic of the day's lesson. After that, I give a worksheet as an evaluation.
This is my teaching procedure.
2-2. Time management and organizing activities
Managing time is crucial for effectively teaching my class and covering all the content. However it is difficult for me because they do not often go according to the time allotment I had in mind. Especially, I found it difficult to manage my time for activities because my students are very energetic. In my classes, I manage to balance teaching elements such as activities, worksheets, and routines. In my last lesson, I felt confident managing time and was not afraid of it.
2-3. Classroom management
Managing the class was a challenge for me in addition to time management. As it was my first time teaching in English, I found it difficult to answer unpredictable and casual questions, make small talk, and transition to the next topic when the class was enthusiastic. To overcome these challenges, I had to think about how to conduct the class, what kind of banter to use, and draft a plan in advance.
2-4. Problem-solving while teaching and staying in the designated school
I felt it was important to prepare what I could in advance.
For example, if I was worried about time management when I was teaching and felt that the class would not finish on time, I felt that if I practiced the class in advance, it would be fine and problems would not arise as often. And, if I was worried about classroom management when I was teaching, thinking ahead about what I am going to say and what questions the students are going to ask will make the class run smoothly.
In this way, to avoid the problem to arise, preparing what I can in advance is a good way for me.
